LAST UPDATE: 02/15/2012
daisy is still not doing especially well. i heard from mom to-day and the news isn’t good. she’s going to have a talk with the surgeon tomorrow, as she is still pursuing surgery for our girl despite the news, but we aren’t expecting anything good to come up tomorrow.
mom’s last message to me reads as follows:
I don’t know what to do…. I have an appointment to talk to the surgeon tomorrow so maybe I’ll have some clarity after that. I had already decided to go ahead with the surgery because otherwise Daisy will have a ruptured spleen at some point, probably in the near future. But everything points to the liklihood that this is malignant, and since it involves the spleen is hemangiosarcoma. If that’s what it is, even with surgery and chemo, only 10% of dogs live more than one year….but if I don’t do it her spleen will rupture & she’ll hemorrhage…or I’d have to put her down before that happens….
I’m lost :(
it’s hard for me to give my mother any advice on the situation considering the options. we either preform the surgery, which is more than we can really afford, even put together, or we put a timer on her life. i’m hoping the surgeon has something better to say tomorrow, but it’s not sounding great.
as much as this hurts me, i’m worried most about my mother. i know that she’s not been doing well emotionally in the last few years and it seems like every time we get back on our feet, someone else gets sick and dies. i know it bothers her because of her own sudden decline as well. i want daisy to pull through so badly, if not for myself but for mom. she needs her.
thank you everyone who has reblogged and to the anon who gave $30, we really appreciate it. my mother changed the goal to $2000, though i’m not sure why, and has altered the description to offer repayment to anyone who leaves their information as soon as she can manage to.
i’ve left the previous post intact for legacy’s sake and will update you guys when we know more. again, thank you so much everyone. it means a lot to us.
this is daisy. she is a yellow labrador retriever. she is 12 years old, born in queen anne’s county, maryland. she was hit by a car when she was a puppy and broke both hips, but her indomitable spirit lead her to a full recovery.lately, daisy has been getting increasingly less active, and seemed to be panting all the time. my mother has been taking her to the vets to figure out what may be causing her sudden decline in health, which seemed not to be just because of her age.
to-day we found out daisy has a mass on her spleen, her adrenal gland and some nodes on her liver. this comes down on us hard, as we have lost two other pets within the last two years. my cat magnum vincent, the most recent, simply seemed to waste away after jasmine, my childhood cat of 19 years, passed away of old age. we spent a lot of time and money trying to find what was wrong with him, stopping short only of exploratory surgery, and in the end could not save him.
we know what daisy needs, and we want to give her every chance she has.
my mother set up a give forward account to try and raise money for daisy, and is selling her truck to try and finance the expenses, estimated at $4000. my mother herself has been in poor condition and will be undergoing a hip replacement next month, followed by surgeries to repair the ligaments in both ankles. she is only 49 years old, and daisy has been a reason for her to continue getting up in the morning despite the pain and depression surrounding her increasing handicap.
if you want to donate to help with daisy’s expenses, please donate to the give forward account. we don’t expect to get $4000, but every bit that is donated will go toward surgery to remove the masses and the chemotherapy we expect to follow. alternatively, if you are interesting in purchasing a 2000 Ford Expedition and live in the MD/VA/DE/DC area, send me an ask for details.
show some love this valentine’s day.
